The University of Toronto is ranked the top university in Canada in the 2018 QS World University Ranking. It is placed 18th among the world’s top public universities and 31st overall among top global universities, followed by McGill University in 2nd place in Canada.

The University of Alberta has once again pressed up the list of the world’s elite universities, leapfrogging four spots to 90th, according to the 2018 QS World University Rankings.

The University of Ottawa continues to be among the top 2% of universities in the world, according to the 2018 QS World University Rankings. It is now ranked 289th overall in the QS Rankings, up two positions. Research performance continues to be uOttawa’s greatest strength. In the citations per faculty indicator (20% of the total score), the University ranks 129th worldwide, up 33 places over the previous year and seventh in Canada, among the best in the country.

Concordia University moved up 30 places from last year and into the 431-400 range. Among approximately 26,000 universities globally, QS positions Concordia in the world's top 1.6 per cent. The following is a breakdown of Concordia’s gains this year, compared to the 2017 edition:
- Academic reputation survey ranked 401+ (+67)
- Employer reputation survey ranked 214 (+68)
- Proportion of international faculty ranked 209 (+6)
